Obituary

Joan Rae (Martin) Wilson was born February 4, 1941 in Gary, Indiana to Roger Kenneth and Marion Jane (Hamm) Martin. She passed away September 29, 2026 in Edmond, Oklahoma.Joan grew up in Chicago, Illinois with her mom and her brother, Jerry. That is where she met Charles Wilson who was serving in the Army and they married in 1956. Together, they raised four children and were married for 68 years at the time of Charles' death. They lived on a small farm and raised horses, sheep, pigs and cattle. Joan was a homemaker and spent the rest of her life caring for her family. She never missed her kids' activities. Whether it was sports, FFA, band or academic contests, Joan was there quietly cheering on her children and later, her grandchildren. She loved to read and spent countless hours reading to her grandchildren. When Grandma Joan was coming to visit, there was a good chance that she had brought a new book with her. Joan was also an excellent seamstress and made many of the girls' dresses when they were young. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Luther for many years. Shy by nature, Joan was a strong woman who loved those close to her in quiet, often unseen ways. She will be very missed by those who knew and loved her.Joan was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Charles; her brother Gerald (Jerry) Martin; brother-in-law Red Calloway; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bobby and Doris Wilson; daughter-in-law Carla Wilson; grandsons Colby and Casey Crothers; granddaughter Alisa Wilson; and nephew Brian Martin. She is survived by her son Stephen Wilson; daughter Jo Ann Orf and her husband Sam; son Dale Wilson; daughter Kristen McGaha and her husband Clint; her grandchildren Wes Crothers and his wife Jaymee; Caleb McGaha and Hannah Fortner; Lanie Whitworth and husband Walker; Jamie Marie; Jackie Santiago and husband; Cartrisha Wilson; 10 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Dorothy Wilson; niece Teka Martin; and nephew William Martin. There will be a graveside service for Joan on Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at the Jones IOOF Cemetery at 11 a.m. Arrangements are provided by Boydston-Bailey Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St Jude's Children's Hospital.
