Obituary

James Richard Smith, born October 25, 1948, passed away on August 7, 2026, at the age of 77. In the hearts of those who knew and loved him, Richard leaves a legacy shaped by warmth, humor, and  devotion to his family and the things that brought him joy.

Richard was a man of simple pleasures and deep loyalties—a steadfast companion who cherished the steady comfort of fishing, the ritual of smoking his pipe, and the excitement of horse races. He held a spirited affection for the Arkansas Razorbacks, always cheering for his team with unwavering enthusiasm.

He shared a life built on dedication and love with his wife, Thelma Smith. His daughter Carol Hedrick and her husband Mike continue to honor his memory, along with his beloved granddaughter Ada Hedrick, who brought great joy into his later years. Richard was a beloved brother to Raymond Smith, and his nephew Max Smith also carries forward his family's memories and stories.

Richard was predeceased by his father, James Smith, his mother, Ardell Brooks Smith, his daughter Jamie Smith, and his brothers Butch Smith and Jimmy Smith. Their memories, interwoven with James's own, form the tapestry of a family tied closely by love, resilience, and shared history.

Friends and family are invited to gather for a graveside service celebrating Richards life on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Luther Cemetery, located on Peebly Road in Luther,Together, those who knew  Richard Smith will remember his steady presence, relive cherished moments, and find comfort in each other's company.

Though he has departed, Richards spirit endures in the laughter of his family, the quiet moments by the water’s edge, and every autumn Saturday spent cheering for the Razorbacks. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of sharing in his remarkable journey.
